Drugs & Alcohol Policy

A clear drugs and alcohol policy can reduce business costs and risks in staff sickness and absenteeism, poor productivity and quality, adverse publicity, the financial consequences of impaired judgements, contract termination and more.

DCS can assist in writing a formal substance misuse policy, providing your employees with clear information on your position concerning substance and alcohol misuse in the workplace and if relevant in employee's personal time, together with the help that you will provide for them (if applicable).

Drugs and alcohol testing can be an integral part of a comprehensive drugs and alcohol policy. Indeed many organisations consider this to be a necessary requisite of the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and the Transport and Work Act (1971).

Testing can be carried out through urine, blood and hair, though the recent introduction of saliva testing has made the process more simple and dignified.

Following a positive test, good practice would be for the organisation to offer the employee information, support, education and treatment. DCS can provide on-site testing and work with both employee and employer to provide satisfactory, post-test solutions.
